European Residency by Investment Program

SPAIN

Program Overview

Spain introduced its Golden Visa Program in 2013 under the Law on Entrepreneurs, offering non-EU investors the chance to obtain residency through significant financial investment. Designed to attract foreign capital and stimulate the Spanish economy, the program allowed investors to enjoy life in one of Europe’s most dynamic and culturally rich countries. However, as of April 4, 2025, Spain officially closed its Golden Visa Program, marking the end of this residency-by-investment pathway.

Spain’s Golden Visa Program, established in 2013, offered a pathway to residency for non-EU nationals through substantial investments in the country. It allowed applicants and their families to live, work, and study in Spain, with the added benefit of visa-free travel throughout the Schengen Area. To qualify, individuals were required to make significant investments in areas such as capital transfers or government bonds. The program aimed to attract foreign investment and stimulate economic growth, while also providing a potential route to permanent residency and eventual citizenship after ten years.
