Kuwait’s Supreme Committee to Investigate Kuwaiti Citizenship has taken decisive action by revoking 5,838 citizenships. This marks another escalation in the country’s campaign, which has already canceled 12,000 citizenships since August 2024. Additionally, four cases of dual nationality and 128 fraudulent registrations were identified.

Article 13 of Kuwait’s nationality law provides clear grounds for revocation. These include fraud, actions undermining the state’s economic or social stability, or criminal convictions. Kuwait’s investigations highlight cases of significant fraud. One striking example involves a man who secured citizenship in 1993 using a fake birth certificate. He later registered 74 fake children and grandchildren. The government identified this fraud through testimony from the man’s brothers. Authorities encourage individuals with knowledge of fraudulent registrations to report them. Those who voluntarily come forward can avoid criminal penalties. The Supreme Committee plans to complete the review of Article 8 cases by January, with each case thoroughly examined by the cabinet.
